Using the Merryfiller Crinkle cut shredder with thick paper
The Merryfiller shredder comes with two crinkling brushes designed for different paper weights. The white brush is intended for lighter paper (up to 50 gsm), such as one or two sheets of 25 gsm paper. The black brush is designed for heavier paper (75 gsm) and can handle up to three sheets of 25 gsm paper or a single sheet of 75 gsm paper.
Although the official specification lists a maximum paper weight of 75 gsm, in practice standard 80 gsm A4 copy paper usually works well. However, performance with other types of 80 gsm paper cannot be guaranteed.
When operating the machine, it is normal for the first one or two sheets to come through with minimal crinkling. The crinkling improves as the machine runs, with the third sheet and beyond typically producing well-defined crinkle cuts. In most cases, you will need to feed three to four sheets before the shredded paper begins falling into the collection bin.
For colourful packaging material, a useful tip is to feed two or three different coloured sheets of 25 gsm paper through the machine at the same time. This creates vibrant crinkle-cut filler that provides both product protection and an attractive presentation for packaged items.
Crinkle-cut paper remaining in the cutting head can be easily removed by taking out the brush and pulling the paper out by hand. This step is often helpful when switching to a different paper colour.
